MARGAO: The Cuncolim Municipal market witnessed an uproar over the closure of the male toilet block in the market complex.
Agitated traders and customers alike questioned the rationale behind the closure of the toilet block by the civic authorities when the market is frequented by hundreds of customers every day.
Traders complained that they are forced to answer nature’s call in the open areas of the market complex, while women traders alleged that unscrupulous elements use the female toilet block, leaving the womenfolk embarrassed.
Chairman of Green Goa Foundation, Raison Almeida slammed the Municipal body for shutting down the toilet block just because it could not tackle the overflowing septic tank. “The problem arose after the male toilet block caused nuisance after its septic waters were overflowing into the nearby fields. Instead of emptying the septic tank, the civic authorities have shut down the toilet block,” Raison said, while threatening to take up the issue with the higher authorities.
