PONDA: Angered with the lack of water supply in the taps for the last six months, women from Palwada-Usgao reached the Daag-Ponda PWD office on Thursday and warned the officials of protest demonstration, if water supply was not restored immediately.
The locals said they were facing an acute and irregular water supply crisis for the past six months and they were fed up with officials of the PWD water supply division.

The women villagers met the PWD officials on the issue, wherein the officials assured of ensuring regular water supply.
But they were unimpressed with the verbal assurances and threatened of gagar (utensils) protest demonstration at the PWD office, if the water crisis issue was not resolved within the next couple of days.
“We visited twice at the PWD office at Daag-Ponda and complained to them, but in vain. Today we again met the Assistant Engineer of water supply, who assured us to solve their issue in two days. But we are not impressed by verbal assurances. If water supply is not restored in the next couple of days, then we will be forced to gagar morcha at the women’s office,” local resident Shilpa Gaude said.
Another woman, Vasanti Nanuskar said the officials informed that the water crisis issue was due to valve and pipeline problems. Exact reason is not known to them.
“Earlier we were getting regular water supply, but now we are forced to fetch water from springs or fetch muddy water from Bore wells, which is unfit for consumption. All the surrounding newly established colonies are getting water supply, but only we are not getting regular water,” Nanuskar said.
Another villager, Premanand Gaude said the weather is getting hotter, due to which demand for water is also increasing.
“Government should solve our issues immediately. Due to new constructions and settlement, the need for water supply increased, due to which locals are going to face water crises in future. The area comes under Ponda Taluka and falls in Valpoi constituency,” Gaude said.
