PANJIM: The Vainguinim Valley Residents Association, Dona Paula has demanded immediate action against ongoing illegal construction and development being carried out within the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) by the management of a starred hotel.

In a letter to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), the residents have stated that a hotelier was digging a beach area with an excavator and was constructing a 10-metre-long platform from and along the boundary and retaining wall of a hotel and was dumping rubble along the beach in total disregard to the CRZ regulations and the law.
The residents have further alleged that the hotelier was encroaching on the beach and have demanded immediate demolition of the illegal construction and to restore the beach to its natural state.
According to Association President Collin Curry, the residents have been using the access to go to the Vainguinim Beach and have been using it for recreational purpose for several years.
Curry said that no permissions from any authorities including the Taleigao Village Panchayat have been produced by the hotel management.
Copies of the letter have also been submitted to the Taleigao Village Panchayat and the Tourism Department demanding that the ongoing illegal activity be immediately and severely dealt with in accordance with the rules and regulations and the laws laid down.
