VASCO: Fishermen from Vasco have demanded immediate stoppage of the repair work of the Vasco fishing jetty after railings supporting its metal plates were found to be corroded.
The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) had taken up the repairs of the fishing jetty at Vasco and when the contractor removed some rusted metal plates to replace them with new ones, the railings supporting the metal plates were found completely corroded.
Fearing that the new metal plates would be useless on the corroded railings, the fishermen asked the contractor to stop the repair work.
“The railings supporting the metal plates are totally corroded and if the railings are not replaced, the jetty will collapse,” remarked Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association President Sydney Furtado.
