VASCO: The Verna police on Thursday arrested nine persons for allegedly assaulting a group of youth residing near Mahalsa Temple at the Verna industrial estate. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when a fight broke out between two groups over previous enmity. Members of both groups work at the Verna Industrial Estate.

Police said that the accused formed an unlawful assembly and armed with deadly weapons such as wooden clubs and iron rods, assaulted eight persons. Following a complaint from Vivek Kumar Bind, a native of Uttar Pradesh, the police arrested nine persons while another eight are absconding.
The Verna police have registered a case against the nine accused under Sections 143, 144, 147 and 148, 326 and 506 (ii) read with 149 of the IPC.
