MARGAO: Saying that any society will lose its language, art and culture if it loses its village character, Chairman of Kala Academy Vishnu Surya Wagh on Saturday underlined the need to bring about a cultural revolution in the State to protect not only art and culture, but the very identity of Goa.
He was speaking after releasing a Konkani book “Kristanvancho Zagor” written by Marcus Gonsalves at a function organised by Dalgado Konknni Akademi at the Ravindra bhavan here on Saturday.
“We have to maintain and protect our village character, which in turn will protect our rich cultural heritage Goa will loose its very identify if we don’t bring about a cultural revolution in the state,” he said.
While complimenting Gonsalves for coming out with a book on Kristanvancho Zagor, giving an insight into the rich art and culture, Wagh said Zagor is not just entertainment, but a means of awakening. He, however, suggested workshops, discussion and a movement in the educational institutions to give the people an understanding of the rich heritage of Goa.
In his address, Dr Pandurang Phaldessai said that Zagor is Goa’s rich cultural heritage and underlined the need to protect the same for posterity. He also underlined the need to revive the “mand” and bring together the artists performing at the Zagors.
Writer Marcus Gonsalves said he has come out with the book on Kristanvancho Zagor as this rich cultural heritage was on the verge of extinction and thanked Dalgado Konknni Akademi and others for their assistance in his endeavour.
