What would you pray for Goa, to St Francis Xavier?

OLD GOA: St Francis Xavier is known as one of the most powerful intercessors of the Catholic faith. Not only did he perform miracles after his death, which led to his sainthood and thereafter, but he also performed miracles in his lifetime, due to his deep devotion to God. Many people have deep faith and have received miracles from St Francis Xavier in Goa too.

St Francis Xavier is known by the people as the Protector of Goa or Goencho Saib. People recall that Goa has been spared from all major storms, earthquakes and even Tsunamis and attribute the same to the miraculous presence of Goencho Saib who instructed that after his death his body be brought to Goa.

On the eve of the feast of St Francis Xaiver, Herald TV asked devotees, “What would you pray for Goa, to St Francis Xavier on his Feast Day? Here are their magnanimous responses which show the ordinary Goans’ love for Goa:

“I fervently pray to St Francis Xavier for the State of Goa, to save it from the clutches of evil; to save it from the clutches of people who are trying to hurt Goan sentiments, people who are trying to disturb the communal peace. From people who have proposed illegal projects in the State and to grant strength to all those people who oppose these social evils.”

“We have seen lot of destruction of Goa. The plans to make Goa a concrete jungle, the plans to finish nature, we are only praying this to Goencho Saib that Goa may be well protected, our nature may be saved. May St Francis Xaiver put in the minds of destroyers of Goa not to destroy Goa. That what the previous generations have handed to us, we may hand it over to the future generations. May Goencho Saib stop this destruction and only Goencho Saib can do it. And our pristine Goa will be preserved.”
