PONDA: The residents of Dhatwada, Usgao and Khandepar villages are living in fear after they spotted a wild bison roaming freely around a residential area for the past four days.
Worried that the bison may attack residents, the villagers demanded that the forest department personnel take steps to ensure that the large animal goes back into the forest, and to deter the animal from venturing into the village areas.
Locals had spotted the wild bison crossing the road, following which forest officials have been keeping a vigil in the
area to try and lure it away from the residential locality. “The government should dig water pits, and grow fruit-bearing trees and fodder in the forested areas, so the bison do not stray into residential areas in search of food,” said a local.
A few days ago, another wild bison had to be rescued from a well at Khandola, Marcel, again in a residential area.
Residents of Marcel said that they have seen not one, but several bison grazing in the area on a regular basis.
The incidents of man-animal conflict in the area have been on the rise, with farmers complaining about bison destroying their crops as well.
