VASCO: The State unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), on Friday, made it clear that they would not allow shifting of casinos to River Zuari from River Mandovi.
Addressing a press conference in Vasco, NCP State President Jose Philip D’Souza claimed that during last assembly election, the BJP had promised the people of Goa, through its manifesto, that they would not allow casino culture to flourish in Goa. However, he said, the BJP made a U-turn after assuming power in the State.
He said that in past, the NCP had opposed shifting of casinos to River Zuari and would continue by that stand.
“How can the government think of shifting of casinos at Chicalim Bay, when the locals don’t want casino culture in their neighbourhood? The proposal of private party may benefit that party as well as the BJP leaders, but what about those fishermen and locals who are dependent on Zuari River for their livelihood,” D’Souza questioned.
