Panjim: There is a new twist to the Digital taxi meter issue, on Tuesday the All Goa Private Bus Owners Association, General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar along with Private Taxi Operators submitted a memorandum to the Transport department regarding alleged illegalities in Taxi Digital fare meter.
Taxi operator leader Bappa Korgaokar, said that Goan Taxi operators will not install meters until Goa Miles is scrap, he added that firstly we are badly affected due to the pandemic and there is no proper income source. However, as per High court order, all taxi vehicles must install a digital fare meter, But Bappa Korgaonakar said, “We will not install meters, until Goa Miles is scrapped, If the Government goes ahead to cancel our permits then we will continue our business in private vehicles”.

Recently, a petition was filed in court alleging that taxi operators are overcharging, but the transport department without verifying this fact asserted that they would mandate taxi operators to put fare meters, Tamankar added. Tamhankar said ,Government has appointed only one vendor instead of appointing 5-6 vendors, and taxi operators are forced to buy meters from this sole vendor. This is unacceptable to us.
He has demanded that the transport minister should mandate taxis coming from outside Goa to install meters.
