Workers call upon KTC to ply buses on more routes

The KTC Drivers and Allied Employees Association and trade union leader Christopher Fonseca have thanked Kadamba Transport Corporation Chairman Deepak Dhavlikar for implementing the VI Pay scales for the KTC staff.
The association and Fonseca met Dhavlikar on Friday and also discussed various issues with him.
“The KTC is not operating buses on several routes in the State though it has permits for these routes and this is because of a shortage of drivers. The KTC requires at least 40 additional drivers and we requested the chairman to fill these vacancies so that KTC can operate buses on those additional routes,” Fonseca told Herald.
“We also requested the chairman that those drivers appointed on daily wages should be paid a minimum of Rs 300 per day,” he added.
Fonseca mentioned that though KTC has implemented the VI Pay scales for the staff, there are many anomalies left in regard to fixation and gradation of scales and he asked Dhavlikar to rectify those anomalies.
The union requested the chairman to ensure that the management does not insist for a medical certificate if the staff remains absent for three successive days. However, the chairman agreed that the management will not demand a medical certificate for those remaining absent for two successive days.
“Since there are no representatives of workers on the KTC Board of Directors, the union suggested that two workers should be appointed on the BoD,” Fonseca said.
Fonseca said the Chairman had mentioned to them that KTC is incurring losses presently and requested workers to work hard to generate more revenue.
“The union has agreed to offer full support and cooperation to the management in regard to generating more revenue to make the KTC a profit making organization,” Fonseca added.
