Adarsh Yuvak Sangh prevailed over Navelim Villagers Union 5-4 via the sudden-death tie-breaker after both teams were involved in a 1-all draw to move into the quarter-finals of F and C Trophy sponsored by F and C Construction and Estate Developers organised by Nerul Sports Club at Nerul ground on Monday.
Adarsh started the match on a promising note but Rohidas failed to score in the 6th minute. Navelim too had their share of scoring opportunities but their forwards were off target. The first half score was goalless.
Changing over, Navelim dominated the initial stages of the match but Adarsh keeper Lawrence came up with an excellent save off Milton Gomes. Adarsh, however, took the lead in the 10th minute through a penalty by Minguel Fernandes after the referee pointed to the spot for ball handling.
Navelim fought back and finally succeeded in restoring parity in the 20th minute through Cleto Baretto to make it 1-1.
In the tie-breaker, Francis Fernandes, Sandesh Chopdekar, Rohidas and Melvyn scored for Adarsh, while Milton Gomes, Chandrakant Naik and Cleto Baretto converted for Navelim. The man-of-the-match award went to Milton Gomes of Adarsh.
