MARGAO: Aditee Prabhugaonkar of Canacona emerged champion in the Women’s State Championship-cum-selection tournament held at GSL Officer’s Club, Chicalim, recently.
Aishwarya Thorat finished second with five points while Swera Braganca finished third with five points but with lower tie-break.
Aditee remained unbeaten with 5.5 points. Gouri Hadkonkar and Sakshi Gaonkar stood fourth and sixth place respectively.
Other results: Tanvi Hadkonkar (7th), Thevar Gayatri (8th), Faiziya Khan (9th) and Naroji Sanskriti (10th). In the under-7, Sayuri Naik, Aliena Pereira U-9, Pranali Naik U-11, Riddhi Zantye U-13, Urvi Bandekar U-15.
Rear Admiral Shekhar Mittal, CMD of Goa Shipyard Ltd was the chief guest and Saldhana Mukundan, general manager of Bogmalo Beach Resort was the guest of honour.
Vinay Tendulkar, president of Goa Chess Association; P K Mujumdar, president of GSL, Sunil Yadav secretary and Vijay Deshpande were also present.
The first six players will represent Goa at the National Women Challengers to be held at Mapusa, in September.
Earlier, Vasant Naik, secretary of Mormugao Taluka Chess Association welcomed while Adv. Anita Thorat compered. Treasurer Mukesh Adhiya proposed a vote of thanks.
The tournament was conducted by the Chief Arbiter P.P. Insulkar. Swapnil Hoble gave a brief report.
