MARGAO: Arlem Youth Association registered a fluent 3-0 win over Bastora United to move into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Mandopa Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Mandopa Sporting Club, at Mandopa ground, Wednesday. The winner led 1-0 at the break.
Arlem started the game on an aggressive note and forced their opponents’ camp into their own half. Arlem breakthrough came in the 10th minute when striker Sheldon D’Souza picked up the ball from his own half and unleashed a stiff shot which found to the far corner of the net.
After the break, Arlem continued to enjoy a better share of the exchanges and scored a consolation goal soon after the re-start, when Soccky Cardozo outwitted a couple of defenders before beating the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement. Joston Barbosa drove the last nail into the rival coffin in the 56th minute to troop out worthy winners.
