PANJIM: Our players must perform creditably, earn medals not only at the forthcoming National Games to be held in Goa, but even thereafter, stated Goa Badminton Association’s (GBA) secretary Sandeep Heble.
“The GBA has a vision that focusses on providing the best possible training to the players. They need specialised training on par with the facilities available at the best badminton academies in India. Our best players like Tanisha Crasto, Anura Prabhu Desai, Tejan Fallary, Lydia Barreto, Arjun Fallary and a few others will have to undergo advanced training in outstation academies to hone their skills. We will also consider hiring experienced coaches and trainers who can design customised training programmes,” explained Heble.
On the infrastructure aspect, Heble pointed out that it could be termed as excellent. “We will have regular practice sessions, tournaments, besides exposure trips to help players gain valuable experience. We already have a Khelo India Centre at Campal where the skills of our senior players are being honed by coach Irfan Khan. Further, SAG coaches Roy Ataide and Vinayak Kamat have also been very supportive of our activities.”
“We will provide the best possible training to the players. Most importantly, we need to concentrate on grassroots, upgradation of training programmes, refresher courses for coaches and officials.
