Bhakti wins bronze

PANJIM: Woman Grandmaster Bhakti Kulkarni helped the Indian Women’s team win a bronze medal at the Asian Nation Cup Rapid Chess Championship, at Abu Dhabi, recently.

Bhakti’s win over reigning Asian Woman Champion Hezazpore Mitra (Iran) helped India clinch the bronze medal. Bhakti was also awarded team as well as individual bronze medal.
Incidentally, this was Bhakti’s second success at International level after winning the Commonwealth Woman Championship in Scotland.
With two medals to her credit, the Goan girl was very happy as it was her first International team tournament abroad. “I was representing India for the first time abroad and was the most inexperienced but my contribution was significant. In classical section India finished fourth but I am happy about my four wins out of four games. I feel one more chance to me would have won a medal for the country in classical too.”
Bhakti will now stay back to participate in the Dubai Open International Chess tournament which has attracted many strong GM’s across the world.
