PANJIM: Host Cuncolim Union carried forward their losing streak in their second match against well-bodied men from ONGC, Dehradun 25-10, 25-17, 25-17 in All India Volleyball tournament organized by them at Cuncolim Union volleyball floodlit court, on Thursday.
The boys from Dehradun were mostly over six feet. Not just that, their game was win oriented and played to a plan, outfoxing the Goan lads with their powerful smashes, deft placements and smart serves.
As the match progressed, it was evident that the boys from Dehradun knew the outcome. They were relaxed and at no point panicked or showed any urgency. Cuncolim Goa knew there was little they could do by way of offering the resistance. They gave their best and put up a fight. But that was not enough.
In another match, BPCL and RCF, Mumbai had the crowd in raptures. Both teams fought well to the end. BPCL started by demonstrating their superiority and winning the first two games sans much difficulty. Kishore Kumar was one of those who blocked and smashed effectively. He was assisted by Jerome, whose left handed smashes fooled his rivals many a times. Jerome made life easier for his team mates by smashing deep into his rival areas.
RCF, however, added colour to the game by winning the third 25-17 and making a fight of the fourth which they ultimately lost 25-20.The ultimate scoreline read 25-17, 25-17, 17-25, 25-20. Pawan Chowdhary and Manish Mishra stood out for the boys from Mumbai.
On Wednesday’s late match, HSIDC, Haryana walked over RCF, Mumbai 25-14, 25-18, 25-21. In a one-sided match, the men from Haryana gave their rivals little room to find their foothold in their opening encounter.
