A fine brace by Francisco Fernandes helped Calangute Association beat Navelim Villagers Union 2-0 to move into the semi-finals of Laxmi and Subha inter-village soccer tournament organised by Nerul Sports Club at Nerul ground on Tuesday. There was no score at the lemon break.
After failing to score at half time, Calangute shot into the lead in the 58th minute through Francisco Fernandes. Calangute doubled the lead through Francisco header off Vijay’s cross in the 67th minute.
Down by two goals, Navelim tried to bounce back but their forwards were unable to find the net. Newton D’Sousa of Navelim won the man-of-the-match award.
