CALANGUTE: Calangute Association got the better of Pilerne Sports Club 4-2 on penalties after being held to a goalless draw in the final to clinch the 6th Rusi Daver memorial football tournament organised by Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, at Saligao Sporting ground, Saligao, on Sunday.
As expected, Calangute Association dominated the major share of match proceedings but their forwards failed to score. Pilerne Sports Club goalkeeper Rupesh too came to his side’s rescue on couple of occasions.
The winners were decided on penalties. Calangute keeper rose to the occasion saving two penalties to give his team a 4-2 victory. Deep Govekar, Pedro Gonsalves, Agnelo Fernandes and Joaquim Cardozo converted for Calangute Association while Reagan Pereira and Anish Fernandes were on target for Pilerne Sports Club.
Minister for Tourism Dilip Parulekar was the chief guest and gave away the trophy to winners in presence of Darryl Pereira, managing director of Reira Group of Companies and Elizabeth Daver.
Earlier, Adarsh Yuvak Sangh President Eknath Oraskar introduced the chief guest and other dignitaries the players and match officials.
