Candolim Sports Club got the better of Arpora Sporting 8-7 via the sudden-death tie-breaker after the teams were involved in a 1-1 draw to move into the quarter-finals of Rama Naguesh Shirodker memorial soccer organised by Chapora Yuvak Sangh, at Chapora ground on Friday.
After a goalless first half, Candolim took the lead in the 43rd minute through Roy. Down by a goal, Arpora mounted pressure on Candolim defence and were rewarded with a penalty in the 56th minute after Edwin handled the ball in the danger zone. German Fernandes made no mistake to slot it home past the goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, it was Candolim who kept their nerves intact to prevail over Arpora. W Rebello, Edwin, Klebber, David, Elvis, Shankar and Atish made no mistake for Candolim while Amit, Savio, German, Gary, Premanand and Punaji were successful for Arpora.
