Carmona down Davorlim,storm into last eight

Carmona Sports Club surprised Sporting Club of Davorlim after securing 5-3 via tie-breaker win to storm in the quarter-finals of Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal on Tuesday. Carmona led 1-0 at the break.
Carmona who held sway in the opening session went into the lead when striker Alex Rodrigues found the mark with a neat shot in the 27th minute.
At the other end, Sporting were subdued in the first half and seldom troubled the rival defence.
Spurred by early success, Carmona created many positive forays into the rival penalty area and had scoring chances to inflate their tally but their forwards showed poor marksmanship up front.
Crossing over, Sporting kept themselves in the hunt for an equaliser and finally snatched it in the dying minutes of the game through Venson Figueriedo.
In the tie-breaker, Carmona netted through Chrisbern Estibeiro, Yuri Ferrao, Blenny Rodrigues and Alex Rodrigues while Joaquim Figueriedo and Venson Figueriedo converted for Sporting. Venson, who played a pivotal role for Sporting Club of Davorlim was adjudged man-of-the match.
