Porvorim: The Goa Cricket Association’s (GCA) Election Committee announced GCA secretary Chetan Desai as president of the sports body after being elected unopposed, at the GCA headquarters, at Porvorim, on Thursday.
On Tuesday, the Bombay High Court at Goa had given its appointed Election Committee headed by Justice (Retd.) AP Lavande and other two members senior advocate Nitin Sardessai and Rajnikant Lawandis time till Thursday to make the all-important announcement.
It may be recalled that on June 27, a day before the polling, GCA’s president Dr Shekhar Salkar compromised with his rival Chetan Desai after the formers Executive Member panel had withdrawn.
Chetan Desai announced his 13-member Executive Committee which includes Akbar Mulla, Daya Pagi, Desh Kinlekar, Jamir Daud Carol, Mohan Hari Chodankar, Manohar Pango Naik,
Sayed Abdul Majid, Shrikrishna Tari, Suraj Lotlikar, Venkatesh Ganesh Prabhu Dessai, Vijay Gaonkar, Vinod Phadke and Yatin Kamurlikar.
Sujay Kumar Netravalkar has been elected as the 14th member in the Executive Committee from the life member quota.
Later while speaking to press persons the newly elected President of Goa Cricket Association Chetan Dessai thanked the cricket clubs for giving his panel full support to get elected and stated that the new committee desires to review the existing constitution and carry out necessary amendments to make it flawless.
The new Managing Committee will also see whether the location selected for the International cricket stadium at Bicholim is commercially viable and take necessary decision accordingly. Goa needs a good Cricket Academy to train new cricket players and with this intention Cricket Academy was set up. But the old Managing compete headed by Dr Shekhar Salkar dissolved it unnecessary.
The new Managing Committee intends to set up the cricket academy again. Shikha Pande, the Goan woman cricket player has performed well at the international level and GCA has decided to offer her one lakh for her excellent performance. The meeting of the new managing committee will be held on July 11, at 12 noon to select the office bearers of GCA, informed Desai.
