MAPUSA: Churchill Brothers FC got the better of Vasco Sports Club 3-0 in the Goa Professional League match organised by GFA, at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.
Churchill Bros went into the breather with a two goals lead through substitute Clencio Pinto (30th) and Umesh Harijan (34th) while Uttam Rai got the third in the 75th minute.
Both the teams unbeaten in the league so far started the match brightly with the first chance coming in the way of the Red Machines in the 14th minute when Uttam Rai ghosted past the Vasco SC defence but his cleverly dink was well read by the keeper Sanju Thappa.
After an intriguing 30-minute of play, Churchill Bros finally broke the deadlock through substitute Clencio who pounced on a miss clearance by Lenstan Afonso to unleash a fierce shot that had no answer to the keeper 1-0.
Churchill Bros consolidated their lead four minutes later when Umesh’s header off Anniston Fernandes free-kick sneaked into the goal despite the valiant attempt made by keeper Sanju to keep the ball out, 2-0.
Vasco SC squandered a golden sitter of pulling one goal back in the very 3rd minute of the second half when Anil Gaonkar getting a hold off a pass from Inacio Colaco busted towards the rival goal but to the agony of the teammate and the dugout shot way over the crossbar.
It just seem an off day for Vasco SC as they once again failed to find the net in the 65th minute when Churchill Bros keeper Kunzang Bhutia made a mess of a cross by Anil’s but lucky Aman Govekar was late to react in placing the ball into the net.
Churchill Bros’ third goal in the 75th minute had a class written all over it when Uttam perfectly connected Nicholas Fernandes corner which hit the side post before entering the goal, 3-0.
