MAPUSA: Churchill Brothers FC registered a well deserved 2-0 win over Calangute Association Sports Club in the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium, here, on Monday.

Red Machine regrouped themselves and came with series of attack on the rival citadel. Franky Oliveira sent a through pass to Yagya Kapoor who moved upfront on the goal-line and took a shot which was blocked by Calangute’s skipper Melvin Lobo at the first post.

Minutes later, Afdal Varikkodan moved dangerously inside the penalty box but after turning and twisting shot into the waiting hands of keeper Paramveer Singh.

Finally in the 35th minute, Red Machine struck through a well combined move initiated by Afdal to Jouston Barbosa who in turn sent a cut back pass to unmarked Franky Oliveira who tapped it into the goal to give his side the lead.

Calangute should have equalised in the 44th minute but none could connect a teasing corner from Rohan Kamble.

At the other end, in the injury time, Afdal Varikkodan moved upfront on the right flank and sent a low cross to overlapping Jouston Barbosa who failed to keep his shot on target.

The Beachside lads came with renewed ideas on crossing ends where in the 52nd minute Kouame Junior sent a perfect cross to Sidharth Kundaikar but the latter shot over the cross bar.

In the very next minute, Churchill’s keeper Debnath once again left his charge to clear the ball before Kouame Junior could do any damage.

Another glorious chance went in vain for Beachside lads when Sidharth snatched the ball from defender Kidron Fernandes and passed it to Siddhant Shirodkar who shot into goalkeepers gloves.

While Calangute failed to level terms Red Machine further inflated their lead in the 66th minute.

Keeper Paramveer Singh brought down Jouston Barbosa inside the penalty box prompting referee Deepraj Sangelkar to point to the dreaded spot. Franky Oliveira made no mistake to net his brace.
