MARGAO: Host Cortalim Villagers thumped Pax of Nagoa 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 23rd Cortalim Villagers Cup Football tournament, organized by Cortalim Villagers Sports and Social Welfare Association, at Cortalim church ground, on Saturday.
At lemon break, Cortalim Villagers were leading 1-0 with the first goal scored in the 26th minute through Elson Rodrigues’ rasping shot off a cross by Clinton Fernandes.
In the second session, Cortalim Villagers were awarded a penalty in the 35th minute scored by Mario Menezes. Pax of Nagoa tried their level best and pulled a goal back through Benjamin Barreto.
Pax of Nagoa got a penalty to equalize in the 45th minute but a good save by the goalkeeper saved the day.
Soon, Cortalim Villagers increased the margin in the 50th minute through Elson Rodrigues.
