Dempo lift GPL Trophy

MAPUSA: Dempo Cricket Club thumped Sarvodaya Royals by six wickets to clinch the 4th Yes Bank GPL T20 Cricket Trophy at GCA ground, Porvorim, Sunday.
Batting first, Sarvodaya were bundled out for a meager 125 in 19.5 overs. Saurabh Dubhey (59) top-scored and was supported by Shadab Jakati (19). Rajesh Vithal Powar, Sahil Dhuri, Sher Bahadur Yadav and Khatib Sahabuddin took two wickets each for Dempo.
In reply, Dempo chased the total in 15.5 overs thanks to a brilliant 41 by Sagun Kamat who was well supported by Yogesh Takawale 35 not out.

Dempo were awarded Rs 8 lakh and the winner’s trophy while Sarvodaya took home the runners-up trophy and Rs 4 lakh. Saurabh Dubhey was adjudged man-of-the-series and received Rs 20,000 while Sagun Kamat bagged the man-of-the-match award and received Rs 10,000. Semi-finalists Salgaocar CC and NRB-GSA Stars were awarded Rs 1 lakh each.
PWD minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honours Shrinivas Dempo, Karan Aluwalia, country head, Yes Bank; Vinod Phadke, GCA president, Dr Shekar Salkar, GCA VP Chetan Desai, general secretary and other dignitaries.
This is the first time Dempo secured the title after finishing runners-up twice in the past.
