Fatorda Veterans emerge champions

AMBORA: Fatorda Veterans defeated Verna Veterans 4-2 via the tie-breaker to lift the Rachol Veterans trophy organised by Rachol Veterans football tournament played at Ambora ground, Camorlim, on Sunday.
In the 5th minute of the match, Verna defender Florian Pereira took control of the ball from  Manuel Moniz who dribbled past the Fatorda defenders, Bobby Crasto and Agnelo Araujo from the defence line and shot from the top of the Fatorda box but the Fatorda keeper was equal to the task. 
Fatorda’s Joaquim Fernandes should have netted  in the 16th minute but shot wide. Just ten minutes before the final whistle, Francis Colaco’s header hit the rival post and went out of play.
 Both teams tried to score the match winner but the strikers lacked sharpness as both the teams were goalless at the end of regulation time. 
In the resultant tie-breaker, Fatorda Veterans netted through Vincent Barbosa, Joao Paulo Araujo, Agnelo Araujo and Mahesh Kamble while Jacinto Abranches and Manuel Moniz found the net for Verna veterans.
The winners were awarded Rs. 25,000 while the runners-up received Rs. 20,000 plus trophies
The individual prizes awarded to: Best player of the tournament: Jenny Fernandes of Chinchinim Veterans, Best ball controller of the tournament: Orland Viegas of Navelim Veterans, Man-of-the-Match: Bobby Crasto of Fatorda Veterans, Best striker of final: Vincent Barbosa of Fatorda Veterans.
Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Curtorim MLA  was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Adv. Radharao Gracias who was the guest of honour, Basil Fernandes, Sarpanch of Camorlim, Anthony Pango, GFA Executive member  and other dignitaries.
