Fr Agnel YSC, USC Seraulim in quarters

RAIA/SANGUEM: Fr Agnel YSC Paroda edged past Guardian Angel SC 5-3 via tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 19th Uguem Rising Club soccer 2023 (golden jubilee) football tournament played at Ugem ground, on Monday.

Full time score remained goalless draw. In the resultant tie-breaker, Fr Agnel YSC netted through Anthony Dias, Gladson D’Costa, Salvito Fernandes, Steve Menezes and Regaon Costa, while for Guardian Angel SC Melroy Fernandes, Alvino Costa and Velerian Hilario were on target.

Man-of-the-match award was presented to Gladson D’Costa by Daigo Fernandes, former captain and player of Uguem Rising Club.

On Sunday, United Sports Club Seraulim, scored a solitary goal win over Wilfred Leisure Sports Club in the second half of the match to enter into the quarter-finals.

In a fast paced match, both the teams made all possible attempts to find the net in the first half but the rival defenders kept all the moves at bay making the score read 0-0 during lemon break.

After changing ends, the match once again witnessed moves by  either team followed by counter moves.

United Sports Club Seraulim however proved lucky in the 52th minute of the match when Ashley Fernandes found the match winner. All possible attempts by Wilfred Leisure Sports Club to find an equaliser however proved futile with United Club defenders standing like a firm rock.

Ashley Fernandes was presented with the man-of-the-match trophy by former vice president of Uguem Rising Club Suresh Bhandari.
