SAO JOSE DE AREAL: Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Govind Gaude laid the foundation stone for the Government Village School playground at Sao Jose De Areal, recently.
MLA Velim Constuency Cruz Silva, Fr Damaciano Carvalho parish priest of St Joseph Church, Areal, Michelle Rebello ZP member were also present.

The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs obtained necessary administrative approval and expenditure sanction towards the work of the development of football ground at Sao Jose de Areal in Salcete taluka for an amount of Rs. 3,88,37,512/- The standard football ground facilities will be constructed with changing rooms.
The department had acquired land on 11 May 2010 admeasuring 12,215 sq.mtrs. bearing Survey No. 73/1 part of Sao Jose De Areal under Land Acquisition Act 1894 for development of a Government Village School playground. The possession of the ground was taken on 4 November 2010.
Speaking at the function, Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Govind Gaude said, “South Goa has many grounds and given good facilities to footballers, each village should have ground, let each youth shine in sports and bring up the name and fame for Goa and India and shine on the world map too.”
“As per The National Education Policy, we have given lot of importance to sports. Sports should be with passion with physical fitness, so that there can be a great revolution with dedication,” he added.
“We received the letter from the IOA for hosting 36th National Games in the month of September but due to incomplete infrastructure, it is very difficult to host it during this time. We have asked the IOA and the Union ministry for a breathing space of 5 to 6 months,” Gaude concluded.
