PANJIM: It appears as if the IMG-R League will ultimately be a reality since the AIFF has asked the GFA to book the Nehru Stadium at Fatorda from January to March 2014 to organise its matches in Goa.
And with the GFA already seeking SAG’s permission for the same, one gets the impression that the controversial League is set to become a reality. The four Goa I-League clubs have been taken by complete surprise with the development, since they are opposed to the new League.
With the parent body asking its affiliated unit to do the booking, the GFA did the follow-up work with the GFA Executive Committee approving the same at one of its meeting.
Sources from New Delhi, indicated that the AIFF was bent on going ahead with the new League much more so as it sought a meeting with all I-league clubs to discuss and agree on sending players for the IMG-Reliance league. This has been interpreted as the AIFF president Praful Patel being adamant in launching the new League, come what may.
Given the developments, all the I-league clubs have decided that all the owners of the clubs would meet in Mumbai on July 23 to rectify their earlier decision of not releasing their players for the IMG-R event since no specifics or details were made known to them and that there is no third window period.
