MAPUSA: Lesvin Rebelo, FC Goa U-18 player, resident of Ambaulim-Quepem was part of the victorious India U-17 squad that clinched the SAFF U-17 Cup in Sri Lanka.
Lesvin began his football career at the Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) centre in Ambaulim-Quepem before joining the FC Goa Youth Programme, where under the watch full eyes of coach Shane Temudo played in the U-13 to U-18 categories as a striker.
Speaking to O Heraldo, coach Shane informed, “Lesvin has come a long way and seeing his progress since he joined the FC Goa Youth Programme, credit goes to him and his family to achieve this feat, in addition to all the coaches since he started playing ‘The Beautiful Game’ and the support system which he got right from the school, GFDC center and FC Goa.”
“Lesvin is a player who keeps working in silence and gives everything on the field of play. He has a strong mindset not to give up until the very end. His intelligence and ability to understand his role makes him stand out for his display in the way he performs to the score goals in crucial moments, carrying the weight of the team,” Shane added.
Last year, Lesvin participated in the Juniors Dr B C Roy Trophy at Chhattisgarh. He was named the Player of the Season at FC Goa in the U-15 season for 2023-24.
He also played in the All India Football Federation Youth League in the U-13, U-15 and U-17 categories for FC Goa.
In the just concluded the SAFF U-17 Championship on Saturday, Lesvin played in the semi-final and final matches.
India U-17 Head Coach Bibiano Fernandes hailed Lesvin’s efforts saying he has a bright future if he keeps working hard and plays regularly.
