PANJIM: Goa University men’s football team qualified for the All-India Inter-University Football championship to be held at Amity University, Noida.
Goa University defeated University of Kota, Rajasthan 4-0 in a crucial play-off match at University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, recently.
Klins Mendes opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Immediately after the break, Craig Menezes made it 2-0 while Gautam Dias added another in the 65th minute. Razor Braganza added his name to the score list with a goal in the 80th minute.
Goalkeeper Olten Fernandes had an outstanding match with very important saves, including two penalties, one in each half to keep Goa in the match.
Now Goa University will play in the West Zone league for the title and for seeding at the All-India Inter Zonal championship.
The Goa University team was captained by Jesmon Carvalho (captain) and included Razor Braganza, Augustin D’Mello, Olten Fernandes, Saddam Bannati, Craig Menezes, Rudresh Tendulkar, Anson D’Souza, Sylvester Dias, Anant Gad, Klins Mendes, Pandurang Palienkar, Maxson Fernandes, Akshay Dabholkar, Devendra Pednekar, Gautam Dias, Valerian Rodrigues, Shawyn Fernandes, Gopi Gad and Saish Goltekar with Valmiki Cardoso as the team official.
