PANJIM: Beach volleyball is one sport where the State has garnered medals at the national level. At the National Games in Gujarat, two teams in the men’s competition made it to the semi-finals but lost. They played each other for the bronze medal and ensured the State did not return empty handed.
Now with the National Games set to be held in the State, the players and coaches have expressed confidence in doing very well and aiming for the gold in the men’s competition.
Ram Dhawaskar is a very popular player in the State and one who was part of the team that won a bronze medal in Gujarat. Ram said, “We intend to start practicing for the Games shortly. The Goan men’s team won a bronze in Kerala earlier and later in Gujarat and we would like to win a medal at home too. I strongly believe we will be successful this year too.”
Prahlad Dhawaskar who is injured and could not participate in Gujarat and may not make it to the Games in Goa said, “We have been winning bronze medals in the Games and now we should focus on winning the gold medal.”
