Government High School, Sadar, Ponda won the Ponda Taluka U-17 football tournament defeating St Joseph High School, Karai, Shiroda 4-0 at sports complex ground, Ponda.
Two goals came in the first half and were scored by captain Vikram Singh while in the second half Charles Cardozo and Zigma Laceram scored one each.
In the semi-finals, Government HS, Sadar defeated Pragati HS whereas St Joseph’s defeated St Anthony’s also from Shiroda.
Government HS, Sadar had ten of its players from the Sports Authority of India, who are undergoing a training in football. This enabled Government HS to an easy win over St Joseph’s. Government HS enjoyed maximun ball possession.
The winning team captain, Vikram Sigh said, “We were confident of winning. However, we could not score more goals as expected. In the end, it was an easy win. During the tournament we had a couple of tough matches but we easily overcame our opponents. Thanks to our school coach as well as our coach at SAI.”
Administrator of SAI, Surinder Rajput was the chief guest at the finals.
In all, 19 team participated.
