RAIA: Ilhas Veterans defeated Guirdolim-Chandor Veterans, 4-1, to move in the next round of the Sesa-Vedanta Awes 50+ Veterans football tournament, held at Sinquetim Sports Complex, Navelim, on Monday.
The match began with Illhas dominating proceedings but found the Guirdolim-Chandor defence a hard nut to crack. In the 15th minute, a defense splitting pass found Nagesh of Illhas, who cooly placed the ball past an on rushing Guirdolim-Chandor (GC) goalkeeper. Thereafter Rosario of GC missed an easy tap in to equalise in the 20th minute. GC keeper Osvaldo pulled up two brilliant saves to deny the Illhas attackers and the score remained 1-0 in favour of Illhas at the break.

Changing over, Illhas doubled their lead in the 30th minute through Pascoal who scored defeating the GC offside trap. Hardly had the cheers died down Peter of GC scored off a back pass from Illhas defender. Peter had a golden opportunity to equalise for GC but could not head the ball into an open goal in the 34th minute. In the 40th minute Nagesh of Illhas scored his second goal to make it 3-1 in favour of Illhas. A full length dive by Osvaldo in the 43rd minute denied Nagesh a well deserved hattrick. The final nail in the GC coffin was drilled by Bazino of Illhas in the 45th minute.
