PANJIM: IM Ritviz Parab (2154) of Salcete is leading with three points outwitting Tanish Bandodkar (1131) in the second round and Saish Fondekar in the third round in the 1st Unity Club All-Goa Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2023, on Saturday.
Twelve players including Joshua Telles, Aaryavat Desai, Devesh Naik, Dmitry Beztrakhov of Russia, Tejas Verenkar, Wilson Cruz, Hriday Morajkar, Valanka Fernandes, Rishikesh Parab, Riddhi Gaude and Saish Audi are on three points with all wins.

Shriya Patil (Salcete) was unfortunate to draw with Reuben Colaco (Salcete) in the third round on the second board as she was a Knight up but had to draw in a Knight and Rook vs Rook ending. Anish Naik (1415) was held to a draw by Kavish Borkar of Salcete. Mayuresh Desai was held to a draw by Rishit Gawas(1089).
The tournament has drawn 145 players from across the State out of which 73 are rated players.
Earlier, FM Nadaf, principal, Government College of Commerce and Economics, Borda-Margao inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Shrikant Velip, joint director, Accounts Department; Ashesh Keni, secretary Goa Chess Association; Damodar Zambaulikar, vice-president ,Salcete Taluka Chess Association; Pradeep Gaonkar, president Unity Club, Prashant Naik and other dignitaries.
A total cash prizes of Rs 45,000 and trophies will be distributed to the winners and runners-up, on Sunday.
The games are being played in Rapid Format under the aegis of Goa Chess Association as per FIDE rules.
