Kewal, Prutha, Nikhil, Mandar, Aarya emerge champions

PANJIM: Kewal Tamhankar, Prutha Parrikar, Nikhil Jadhav, Mandar Joshi and Aarya Divekar emerged winners in Ramacanta V P Dharwatkar memorial All-Goa table-tennis tournament organised by Panjim Table Tennis Club (PTTC) in association with Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), at indoor stadium, Campal, here, recently.

Kewal retained his Youth Boys (U-21) title by registering a facile 11-6, 11-2, 11-7 victory over second seed Selvyn Godinho.
In youth girl’s category, Prutha stunned top seed Akshata Naik in a match which went full distance. She won 12-10, 11-4, 7-11, 3-11, 11-7. 
Mandar rallied from a set down to defeat a tenacious Gagnesh Dhulapkar 11-13, 11-8, 11-4, 11-8 and emerge winner in under-14 boys.
In under-14 girls, Aarya was in cruise control as she got past young Sanisha Shetye 11-4, 11-6, 11-5. Nikhil emerged under-17 boys champion, scoring a hard fought 8-11, 11-5, 11-9, 13-11 win over Shubham Mengane. 
Prizes were awarded to the winners and runners-up while third place trophies were awarded to Simran Kubal and Akshata Nair (U-14 girls), Sayaf Sheikh and Irvin Joao(U14 Boys), Vaidik Srivastav and Kartik Iyer(U17 Boys), Pranali Sonawane and Utkarsha Shivani(U21 Girls) and Jophilip George and Vaidik Srivastav(U21 Boys). Promising Player Prize was awarded to Raheem Shaikh.
The championship was held to commemorate the 82nd birth anniversary of late Ramacanta VP Dharwatkar, one of Goa’s foremost table-tennis champions.
Adv Prasad Kirtani, former State player and promoter was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Mahendra Dharwatkar, Gaurish Dhond and Ajit Ghantker.
The Tournament was officiated by Noel Estibeiro. Earlier, Chetan Kavlekar, president of PTTC welcomed. Secretary Sandeep Heble proposed the vote of thanks.
