MARGAO: A superb second half strike by Llyod Cardozo enabled Snow’s Football Academy, Raia overcame CAC Cansaulim 1-0 and march into the quarter-finals of the South Goa Mc Dowell’s No 1 Yaari Premiere Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Cuncolim Union at Government Village School ground, Cuncolim on Tuesday.
Snow’s Football Academy began stronger in the first 20 minutes of the game and had a chance to break the deadlock but striker Flyod Cardozo was the worst offender as he muffed sitter with only rival goalkeeper at his mercy.
At the other hand, CAC were resolute at the back and prevented rival forwards from attacking their citadel.
As the match progressed further, both the teams were in full spate and fired couple of sorties against the citadel. CAC had a golden chance to surge ahead in the 10th minute when Richard Rodrigues ‘s snap narrowly shot missed the target.
After that there was little on offer from the Cansaulim who often found it hard to break the Raia defence. Snow’s had a glorious chance to surge ahead midway in the opening session but striker Llyod Cardozo shot wide from handshaking distance much to the dismay of Raia supporters.
Late in the first half, CAC Cansaulim came close in breaking the deadlock when Cancio Soares ‘s way ward shot was kept in well by rival goalkeeper.
There was no score at lemon break.
Post resumption, growing in confidence, Snow’s FA held slight edge over their opponents with Llyod Cardozo and Melvin Gaunkar dominating upfront but for all his good work, Llyod Cardozo and Melvin Gaonkar missed two presentable chances.
The all important goal came in the 39th minute when Lylod Cardozo slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot off well measured pass from Joston Cardozo. Stung by that reverse, Domnick Soares had a glorious chance to get CAC Cansaulim a footing into the match but failed to get past rival defender.
Joston Cardozo of Snow’s Football Academy blew a golden opportunity to swell the lead only to be cleverly tackled by rival goalkeeper. The reaming part of the game saw the teams on an even keel with both having their moments in the sun.
However neither teams managed to find the net through.
CAC citadel came under heavy pressure in the dying minutes of the game.
In another match at Anjuna ground, Dunes Sports Club edged past Xetrapal Sports Club 1- 0. There was no score at break.
Crossing over, Dunes Sports Club were dominant with their forwards as they showed urgency. Their breakthrough came in the 44th minute when striker Sylvester beat the rival goalkeeper with neat finish off pass from Anant Das.
