MARGAO: Mandopa Sports Club Navelim rallied to oust Pax of Nagoa Sports Club 6-4 via the tie-breaker and enter the quarter-finals of Agnelo Mascarenhas memorial soccer tournament organized by St Anthony Assolda at panchayat ground, Assolda, Saturday.
Pax settled quickly and took the lead in the 15th minute when winger Rego sent in a fine cross from the right to striker George Pereira who made no mistake in slamming the ball past the Navelim goalkeeper.
Navelim regrouped quickly and restored parity within five minutes through medio Allister Gomes who took a neat pass from fellow midfielder Jerson Pereira and found the net from inside the box.
Despite playing attacking football both the teams failed to score more goals and the tie-breaker was applied in which Valinton D’Silva, Allister Gomes, Claudio Dias, Alvito Colaco and Jerson Pereira were on target for Mandopa. For Nagoa, Vijal Rego, Shawn Pereira and Menino Pereira were the scorers.
