MAPUSA: Nerul Sports Club got the better of St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim 6-4 via the tie-breaker to march into the final of North Goa Yarri Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Saligao United, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Saturday.
St Anthony’s SC took over their reins and controlled the proceedings and their breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Piedade slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot.
At the other end, Nerul SC were not allowed any space to manoeuvre inside the rival territory and the Siolim defenders were rock solid at the back..
Persistent forays paid off when Pushparaj neutralized the lead with stiff grounder to put his team on equal terms.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Aniket, Akash Benaulikar, Deepraj Sangodkar, Paul Cardozo and Siddnath Shirodkar were on target for Nerul SC while Sangam Pednekar, Claudio Rodrigues and Sahil Pomburpkar scored for St Anthony’s SC.
