CALANGUTE: Nerul Sports Club defeated PVC Association, Parra 3-1 in the inaugural match of Saligao United Cup Soccer organized by Saligao United, at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, Nerul forged ahead in the 35th minute through Sainath Kalangutkar who capitalized on defensive lapse to tap the ball into the net. Rohit Naik made it 2-0 off a long ranger which beat the rival keeper. Parra reduced the margin in the 45th minute following a penalty which was converted by Jessito Fernandes. Avinash Shirodker rounded off the tally in the 53rd minute of play.
Earlier, footballer Denzil Franco kicked-off the tournament in presence of Saligao United Club officials and others.
