BENAULIM: Parish Youth Nuvem defeated Margao SC 2-0 to clinch the 4th St Sebastian Cup, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, recently.
After a lot of squandered chances at the goal both the teams were locked in a goalless draw at the end of the first half.
After the lemon break both teams started afresh trying to find an opening to score.
Parish Youth Nuvem were first to have a say at the rival goal as the deadlock was broken in the 46th minute when Standley Colaco sent a beautiful ball to Inacio Colaco inside the Box, who smashed the ball into the far corner of Margao SC nets for a 1-0 lead.
Thereafter Margao SC tried to equalise when a well combined move by Hanslum Furtado and Mackwin Soares but the effort was wasted away when Hanslum Furtado’s shot was collected by the keeper.
Parish Youth Nuvem doubled the lead in the 55th minute when Quiterio Pango collected a stray ball and shot it into the nets of Margao SC for a 2-0 lead.
Winners were awarded Rs 40,000 plus trophy while the runners-up had to content with Rs 30,000 and trophy.
Inacio Colaco (Parish Youth Nuvem) was awarded 1st scorer of the final, best goalkeeper of the final Jose Colaco (Parish Youth Nuvem), best player of the Tournament Bryan Diniz (CAC Cansaulim), best defender of the final John Colaco (Margao SC), best player of the final Rosario Noronha (Parish Youth Nuvem), best mid field of the final Jose Colaco (Parish Youth Nuvem), best defender of the tournament Elvis Barreto (St Sebastian YC Benaulim).
Churchill Alemao, ex chief minister of Goa was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of, Anthony Pango, Savio Alemao, Remy Fernandes Sarpanch, Benaulim, Menino Fernandes Sarpanch, Colva, club officials and other dignatries.
President Lourenco Seby Fernandes welcomed Vernon and Joaquim M D’Silva and introduced the players to the guests. Domnic Pereira compered and gave vote of thanks.
