RAIA: Parish Youth Nuvem overcame Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, by a solitary goal to advance to the quarter-finals of the 8th Martin’s Cup football tournament organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club and played at the panchayat ground, Betalbatim, on Wednesday.
From the opening whistle, Parish Youth Nuvem came out attacking and kept the Fatorda defence under sustained pressure. Drawin Colaco had the first clear chance to put Nuvem ahead, but his header was punched away to safety by Don Bosco goalkeeper Glen Fernandes. Soon after, Jef Barreto delivered a diagonal pass to Hanslum Furtado, whose right-footer from inside the box narrowly missed the frame. With both sides trading opportunities, the match remained goalless at half-time.
The second half produced several exciting moments at both ends, keeping the crowd engaged, but it was Stanford Colaco of Parish Youth Nuvem who finally broke the deadlock in the 45th minute, scoring with a neat placement to seal his side’s passage into the quarter-finals.
Stanford Colaco of Parish Youth Nuvem was awarded man-of-the-match by Bernado Ferrao of Betalbatim.
