VASCO: Parth Salvi shared joint lead along with Mandar Lad and Rishikesh Parab after the 5th round in the open category of All Goa U-19 (Juniors) state Chess selection tournament for open & girls. The tournament is organized by Mormugao Taluka Chess association under the aegis of Goa Chess association and Sports Authority of Goa, at the SAG Chess centre,Tilak Maidan, Vasco.
In the 5th round, Parth and Mandar decided for peace and settled for a draw on the top board to remain on 4 ½ points from 5 round whereas Rishikesh Parab beat Sanjay Thorat to tally 4.5 points. Skandhaj Kotha held Pednekar Ayush on the third board to remain on 4 points along with Kakodkar Joy, Ali Amanat ,Saish Fondekar, Varad Shirodkar and Tejas Shet Vernekar (4 points each)
Meanwhile in the girls category WCM Swera Braganza has taken sole lead by scoring 4 points from 4 rounds.
She defeated Naroji Sanskriti in the 4th round on the top board with black pieces. Shweta Sahakari and TanviHadkonkar are trailing by ½ point and share the second spot.
Four players in each category will be selected to represent team Goa for the U-19 Nationals at Jaipur- Rajasthan from November 2 to 10.
The tournament has reached its final phase with three rounds to spare in the open category and two rounds in the girls’ category and the same will be played
on August 18.
A total of 97 players has participated in the tournament out of which 27 are FIDE rated players .
