PANJIM: Parth Salvi emerged champion at All Goa Rapid Open Liberation Cup Chess Tournament, organised by Queens Chess and Cultural Club, Tiswadi at Dr KB Hedgewar School, Cujira, recently.
In the final round Parth held top seed Fide Master Nitish Belurkar to a draw. Nitish finished runner-up while Shane Braganca was placed third. Ishan Pagi, Vivaan Ballikar, Aryan Raikar and Sairaj Vernekar took up the fourth to seventh prize.
Earlier Dr Roopa Belurkar, President of Queens Chess and Cultural Club welcomed the gathering. Bhakti Dempo, Finance Director, Vision Dempo Hospitality and Estates Pvt. Ltd was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhakti expressed delight at such tremendous response by the young children for chess and also expressed happiness that women members have come together and are contributing actively towards such activities.
Kishor Bandekar, Treasurer AICF and Secretary GCA was the guest of honour and he felt that women members coming together augurs well for the growth of Chess in Goa and he expressed all support from GCA to Queens Chess and Cultural Club.
On behalf of Queens Chess and Cultural Club, Dr. Roopa Belurkar felicitated Kishor Bandekar for his vision and guidance towards successful organisation of two International Grandmaster Tournaments in Goa and for the world record of 13 norms in a single tournament.
Chief Arbiter IA Aevind Mhamal, Kreeda Prabodhini treasurer, Sandesh Chodnekar, Vice President GCA, Vasant Naik, Joint Secretary GCA, Satyawan Harmalkar and GCA members Balakrishnan V and Sanjay Belurkar were also present.
