MAPUSA: Penha de Franca Sports Club scored a hard fought 2-1 win over Sesa Football Academy in the GFA’s First Division Football League match, at Sanquelim ground, here, on Tuesday.
The evenly contested encounter saw Sesa have the first clear look at the rival goal when Joval on getting hold of the ball, covered some yards only to see his powerful right-footer miss the target by a whisker.
A minute later, Penha de Franca stormed into the lead when Joston Pereira charging into the Sesa FA citadel and unleashed a powerful right-footer which had no answer from the rival keeper.
On resumption, Sesa FA took on the field with more focus and managed to find the equalizer through a power-packed strike from Veegan Ferrao.
Penha de Franca came with a series of raids but Sesa keeper Santosh Pujar displayed some fine skills to keep their efforts at bay.
However, there was very little that he could do when Penha de Franca were awarded a penalty kick after a Sesa FA defender handled the ball inside the danger zone. Melwyn, who stepped up for the spot-kick made no mistake to make it 2-1.
