RAIA: Ponda Footballers downed Cuncolim Union 3-1 to secure a place in the semi-finals of 24th Bro Eulalio Vaz memorial football tournament organised by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, at their ground, on Friday.
Ponda Footballers played an attacking soccer from the word go and stuck the first goal in the 9th minute through Astal Dias with a neat placement from the box.
Ponda Footballers remained 1-0 lead at the end of first half. Changing over, Cuncolim Union wasted many opportunities but Ponda Footballers continued to capitalise on the chances they got and scored twice in the 39th and 51st minute through the boots of Shawn Colaco and Climax Fernandes respectively.
In the last quarter, Cuncolim Union player was brought down in the danger area and Referee Jose Rebello awarded a penalty which was well converted by Wilson Fernandes.
