Ponda got off to a perfect start with Francis D’Souza finding the net in the very third minute.
Trailing by a goal, Candolim went all out and drew level through the boots of Trevor Antao.
Changing over, the teams tried their best to find the match-winner and when it looked like that the match would be decided on penalties, referee Menino awarded a controversial penalty to Ponda, much to the dismay of the Candolim player and Pond’a Xavier Colaco made no mistake to beat the rival keeper.
Referee Menino was at the receiving end as Candolim players continued to protest on the decision along with their supporters. However, the organizers brought the situation under control.
