MAPUSA: PVC Parra had to wait till the tie-breaker before securing a 4-2 win over Dunes SC, Mandrem to make their way into the semi-finals of the Vagator Soccer Cup, organised by Vagator PYSC and played at Vagator ground, on Thursday.
Dunes were the first to have a clear look at the rival goal, however, Shashank Aswekar’s powerful long range effort was brilliantly kept away by PVC keeper Ritesh Narvekar.
Atish Mirajkar and Powell Pinto were guilty of squandering open goal scoring opportunities for the Parra colts.
On resumption of play Vivek collected the ball from Silvestor Dias only to see his right footer sail inches over the Parra goal.
Minutes later, Dunes were awarded a penalty kick after Glenson Britto was dangerously tackled by Parra’s Sankesh Harmalkar inside the 18-yard box, however keeper Ritesh Narvekar came with a splendid save to deny Dunes’ Shashank from scoring from the penalty spot.
With the match ending in a goalless draw the tie-breaker was implemented where Floyd Pereira, Felix D’Souza, Rowell Pinto and Vassant Gadekar scored for Parra, while Leslee Britto and Vivek Naik scored for Dunes.
