MAPUSA: Sai Avtar, Anjuna edged past Penha de Franca 6-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of 4th Milagres Club football tournament at Bodgeshwar ground, here, Wednesday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.
After a barren first session, Penha de Franca broke the deadlock early in the second half through Dilip Rodrigues.
Sai Avtar tried hard in search of the equalizer and restored parity in the dying minutes after Maurice Carvalho shot past the rival custodian with a deft placement.
In the tie-breaker, Saprem Diukar, Drynan Pereira, Gautam Diukar, Rohan Rautal and Abhijeet Salgaocar scored for Sai Avtar. Milind Shinde, Gabriel D’Souza and Parshuram Kaddinawar were on target for Penha de Franca.
Yesterday, Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, Saligao trounced Nerul Sports Club 3-0. Adarsh led 2-0 at the breather.
Adarsh established easy control and surged ahead in the 25th minute through Sandesh Chopdekar’s. They continued the same rhythm and doubled their lead five minutes later, after Govind Mahale cleverly set up Avelino Fernandes inside the box, who shot past the rival custodian with a deft placement.
Changing over, Avelino registered his brace in the 42nd minute off Sheikh.
